First off: If you don't care about baseball, leave now.

Okay. The Rockies are playing. We've had a dominant pitcher all year, goes by the name of Ubaldo Jimenez. Up to this point, he had fourteen starts, was 13-1, and had less than a run per nine innings. He has the flu, and he JUST got pulled from the game, but that's actually not what this rant is about, despite the poor guy looking like he should be tucked up in bed with TheraFlu. There are enough armchair managers without me being so here.

Nonono. MY problem is with how the mainstream baseball media STILL treats the Colorado Rockies. First thing I see on the Yahoo! page: "Rocky Mountain oy." Really? REALLY? HE. HAS. THE. EFFING. FLU. Sure, maybe he shouldn't have said he'd start tonight, but he has been the one rock this team could stand on all throughout the beginning of the season. ONE bad start does not suddenly mean he's done for the goddamn season. We finally have Huston Street back, which makes me happy, but I'm tired of this bullshit. I've been putting up with "LOLROCKIES" or "LOLCOORZ" for more than fifteen years. It's not even just the humidor: THIS IS A GOOD BASEBALL TEAM. They are insanely inconsistent offensively early in the year, yes. Their bullpen is streaky as hell, oh God, YES, but they are a good goddamn team with good goddamn players. I saw some of them start in Casper, and I'm glad to see they made it all the way up and are doing well. They have made themselves into contenders. Please TRY to treat them with at least as much respect as you're giving the Nationals, who SUCK. Even with Strasburg, they're still 33-40. The Rockies are (prior to tonight) 37-33, which isn't mind-blowing, unless you consider that they started the season with half a rotation and no closer. Ubaldo was good last year, but not this good. He stepped up and pretty much carried the team. Our offense is getting better by baby steps, and Francis and Hammel have both had fairly successful returns, so it shouldn't be up to Ubaldo to win all the time. But that gets back into armchair managing.

The irony about the armchair managing I said I wouldn't do (why the HELL do you leave someone with the flu in for +100 pitches)? The game I went to on Saturday was A: Awesome, as we won and I asked for home runs and received them (I imagine it only works live, or you can damn well bet I'd be praying for 'em now), and B: The exact opposite, as applies to pitching. We had THREE pitchers try to get the last out. THREE. Seriously.

Also? When I'm already annoyed, the actual fans blaming things on people who are actually doing okay at the moment? DOES NOT HELP.

Anyway, I'll talk more about my baseball enjoyment later, because I'm a bit peeved at the universe right now. I leave you with one final, heartfelt thought: FUCK HAIL.

Edited to add: And we won anyway, Red Sox fans, so THERE!
